Nio 800 man-made chip, the first self-developed chip “Erlang Shen” released today

According to reports, NIO IN 2023 NIO innovation and Technology Day was held IN Shanghai on September 21, announcing the official release of the first self-developed chip -- the laser radar master chip “Erlang Shen”, which will be mass-produced IN October this year. The Chinese name, Erlang Shen, reflects its position and role in the body, “The car is like Erlang God with an extra eye.”

NIO pointed out that the Erlang Shen chip is the first self-developed chip released by NIO's intelligent hardware team. It has an 8-core 64-bit processor, provides powerful computing support, and is equipped with an 8-channel 9-bit ADC, with a sampling rate of up to 1 ghz, it can efficiently capture the raw data of the lidar sensor and reduce the power consumption of the lidar by 50% . In addition, NIO also officially launched the intelligent electric vehicle global operating system SkyOS. Whole Vehicle Global Operation System Tianshu SkyOS is NIO whole vehicle bottom operating system. According to reports, this is also the first smart electric vehicle operating system, SkyOS full-function production will be on the NT3 platform models.

“Erlang Shen” chip is the first self-developed chip released by NIO intelligent hardware team. According to NIO CEO Li Bin, the chip features high integration, low power consumption, high performance and better support for complex scenarios. By developing its own chips, NIO can trade short-term investment in research and development for long-term gains, a strategy that could help NIO save costs and improve its competitiveness, he said. Li Bin Said Erlang Shen had achieved a “Few hundred Yuan” cost reduction per pill.

“Erlang Shen” could reduce the cost of NIO's laser radar by hundreds of Yuan and recoup its research and development costs in about a year, Li Bin said of his chip plans. Li Bin also said the chip was NIO's first foray and did not require much effort from the chip team. The next major chip will be developed, and will be released in due course.

Nio now has a chip and smart hardware team of up to 800 people, and it is distributed globally, and NIO will use the spirit of the Hisilicon team to motivate itself.
